Paying to see the doctor
Pay to see your Doctor?!
They‘re at it again! As though
their reported earnings of
£100,000 per year are not
enough, now doctors want fees
for an appointment.
Just how much the fees might
be is as yet unconfirmed but,
be they £5, £25 or even more,
surely any fee flies in the face
of the NHS principle that
treatment should be free at the
point of need?
Every day there seems to be
a new disaster in the NHS, not
least the recent report that
highlighted those hospitals which
have had a high mortality rate,
alledgedly caused by cuts in
nursing staff.
Two of the worst case
hospitals have immediately
recruited two hundred and ninety
nurses respectively. Many others
are at their wits end trying to stay
out of debt in order to pay back
costly Private Finance Initiatives.
Of course there are many
other unnessessary deaths
amongst old people, from winter
cold to, no doubt, the recent
heatwave. Avoiding these deaths
requires that prompt and
adequate health services must
be provided at local levels.

There is, it seems, far too
much concern to establish bigger
and bigger Foundation Trusts
rather than in ensuring that
patients receive the care they
need and deserve.
Dial 111...or don’t!
What a mess! NHS Direct
used to provide a good, nurse led
service for out of hours calls.
That was before privatisation.
Now with Dial 111, we are told
that our details and symptoms
are being taken by untrained staff
with a tick-box
questionnaire and a computer
screen. As a result, far too many
patients are directed to already
over loaded Accident and
Emergency departments.
The NHS is being run on a
shoestring. Now, finding that they
are unable to provide a decent
service for the contracted
price, NHS Direct are giving
up their contract.

Re: Paying to see the doctor
Excellent posting hawkinscarole. The Tory's since Thatcher have never believed in the concept of the NHS. The Tories believe in private health care only.hawkinscarole wrote:Pay to see your Doctor?!

Since the 80's and Thatcher, the right wing Tory's have been funding our National Health Service from what is known as right wing trickle down economics, and not tax and spend as it should be.
And to get into power and achieve their agenda, the Tory's cut income tax and National Insurance contributions for all British workers. And 30 years on we are now suffering the consequence of over 30 years of ultra right wing Tory Governments.
